Hi Tina! The walk was listed at the bottom of our front page when it was in the future, but it is now past... Fiona sent a marvellous summary of our discussions in the most recent newsletter. We felt there was enough interest to run another one - perhaps sometime in Spring. If you have ideas of places you would like to share or talk about with a group of locals, feel free to email me, or comment on this site and I will make sure you get specifically invited to the next one!

I would love to take part in the West Leederville Walk - I may be a bit confused (highly likely!) but I can't see a date and time for the walk. When will it be?

Hi All
We received the notice (at home) of the DAP meeting from council in the post yesterday. It advises that the DAP mtg is at 6.00pm next Wed and that notice to speak to the DAP is required to be lodged no later than 72 hours prior to the mtg (6.00pm Sunday night?). Should we call and confirm whether this means we have to have notice in today – being last working day prior - or do we assume that they will accept a notice submitted on the weekend?

PS Pls copy any comments/correspondence to my work email address. Thx

Gavin, I'm not certain that all of us DO think that the Sorrento Marina is a good thing.

A seven storey building in itself isn't the problem. The problem is where it is, what it's for and how it radically alters the suburb. If it was 800 metres further east, amongst the existing tall buildings, I can see no problems. But that isn't where it is sited. And it doesn't show any signs of having the kind of design that encourages vibrant "villages" within our city. It looks like a bachelor pad for fly-in-fly-out CUBs who are not generally inclined to add value to the structure of village society.

Well put Gavin! 100% agree. What exactly is the issue with height? Seriously - exactly what is the issue?

Having just moved into West Leederville a year ago it was the beauty of the character homes and tree lined streets that appealed to us and encouraged our family to move out of Subiaco. A suburb that is losing it's charm at a great rate of knots due to obese ugly buildings such as what is proposed on the corner of Cambridge and Kimberley. How this monstrosity is even being considered for such an old charming suburb is quite bewildering.
The traffic congestion it will add to an already dangerous section of road is beyond belief. This stretch of Cambridge street needs less and the slowing of vehicles, along with more traffic calming design and ideas, not another abundance of peak traffic congestion.
Greed is the ulterior motive here hence the ridiculous concept of seven stories.
Anything over three stories is simply not required. The developer offers only petty unfounded reasons to justify the building. Their idle threat that the site will remain dormant for years to come is not so. I will gladly contribute to demolish the building and create a park for all the residents around the suburb to enjoy.
Let's ensure the ToC back the residents they represent and not some need for greed developer.

much needed park on the site.

This proposed development is sub-standed for this location, which is a upper middle class high income residential area. It will decrease values of current properties, and decrease the value of future developments, thus discouraging future investors and slowing development in the West Leederville Town Centre Precinct. This would reflect badly on the Town, and reduce its ability to attract investment in the future.
I am therefore opposed to the development.

Please, 7 stories seems a bit excessive for crn Cambridge and Kimberley. I would imagine that 3 storeys would be fine and be more in line with Planning Guidelines that we saw some time back. 118 car bays cannot service 51 one bedroom and 41 two bedroom units. When practically everybody has a car the maths is simple 51+(2*41)+say 30 visitors = 163 bays required. Keep the parking and reduce the height. Poor existing neighbours. Mine and my neighbours back yards are overlooked ... if you want to know what that is like to live with then come and visit me. I have sent my objection to any development over 3 storeys and to inadequate parking to Town of Cambridge.
